GALLERY — NEW YORK, DECEMBER 2009 Page 1 Page 2 On December 13, we had private session at Stephen Baker's home. Here are a few highlights: Kakie Preparatory Drills We started with some preparatory Drills used to teach Kakie. These drills are used to develop an understanding of Shokusokugi and many other related concepts.
The class continued with more explanations of Kakie. In the pictures below, I demosntrated some of the applications of these techniques with our host Stephen Baker.
Basic Hammer Drills Our class continue with some basic Hammer Drills designed to develop wrist control and snap tsuki.
Nigiri Dama Drills We continued our training using Nigiri Dama, a tool made of hey or straw, which is used to learn how to close the hand for a strike. This technique is used to develop the hand's torquing force used in Karate, known as shiboru.
Ti Machiwara — Basic Drills Another important trademark of the Shinjinbukan School is Ti Machiwara. It is used to develop the correct wrist control and accuracy for each hand strike. The Basic Ti Machiwara Drills also combine Tsuki and Tenshin. The Ti Machiwara should not be confused with the Machiwara also know as Tachi Machiwara .
